We just learned that four of our graphic novels are sold out at the distributor’s level. It’s a first for us and some books have not even reached stores yet!
This was meant to happen. As we publish more books each year, our popularity is growing (and that’s a good thing). Since we started FairSquare Comics, only a couple of titles, mainly from the direct market like CLASSIFIED JAEGER and BEYONDTOPIA#1 cvr A and NO KIDDING (due to its topical nature) have sold out at our distributor, Diamond. But this Summer, we’ve noticed that our graphic novels too have been selling out faster. And we couldn’t be more proud for the amazing creators we’re working with.
So Which ones were the “flying off the shelves” ones?
1- NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK
It took two years, but our massive second edition is now gone. The two combined editions sold over 5000 copies to date. For a small publisher, it’s an achievement! And we owe it to the creators who poured their hearts and souls in this project as well as our very own team who tirelessly promoted the book. A third edition should arrive in February 2024 and will contain a few surprises. 🙂
2- A BOY NAMED ROSE
What a shocker! A 228 pages volume about a Burlesque genderfluid dancer in 1920s Paris? No one believed in it except us. Gaelle Geniller, the writer/artist is a sensation on Instagram with over 100K followers. Initial orders were anemic, but we persisted. And re-orders have been spec-ta-cular! It took 30 days for A Boy Named Rose to sell out. Yes, a new printing is on the way… Stay tuned! 🙂
3- ULTRALAZER
Another book many retailers overlooked. But we knew we had a middle grade winner here. Once we delivered, the book sold out in two weeks, this August. Reprint will arrive in the Spring alongside volume two. And this time, hopefully, our beautiful retailer friends will order en masse for their customers. We’ve only offered UlTRALAZER at two comic conventions so far, and it has instantly become a fast seller. Maxence, Pauline and Yvan have created a little wonder here…
4- NOT A NY LOVE STORY
Fastest sellout ever at the company! The Voloj/Gefe supernatural romance effort did not even reach bookstores and it’s already gone at the distributor! Released August 23rd in comic book stores, it is scheduled for September 5th everywhere else books are sold. Well… No more copies. Reprint on the way. If you haven’t ordered your copy, it’s time to fall in love with this book. Such a moving story and beautiful art!
What’s the next one to sell out?
Well, INTERTWINED vol.1 is probably the next one on the list. Less than 40 copies are available at Diamond warehouses and it’s a constant big seller at shows. BREATH OF THE GIANT should also sell out soon (100 copies left in stock).
