Los Angeles, January 7th, 2021.
INCLUSIONARY PUBLISHER “FAIRSQUARE COMICS” EXPANDS IN 2021 WITH YA NEW SERIES ‘LADY-BIRD’, PARTNERING WITH INKR COMICS.
In its sophomore year, in a very challenging 2020, FairSquare Comics has already made some wave with successful Kickstarter campaigns for the ONE-HIT WONDER and NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK graphic novels. The latter, a collection of Noir genre stories from 40 black creators, gathered almost 1200 backers and close to $50K on the crowdfunding platform.
Starting January 13th, 2021, FairSquare Comics opens a new chapter in its young history with a major double announcement.
First, the whole FairSquare Comics library will progressively be available on the INKR Comics app, on iOS and Android. Once in the app, users can read comics for free (with ads) or sample other titles available with the INKR EXTRA subscription service. A 30-day free trial is offered for that ‘All you can read-style’ plan ($4.99 a month regular). FairSquare Comics will start rolling out new content every week from January 13th, with up to six titles by April 2021, including ONE-HIT WONDER (from January 27th), INTERTWINED (from February 3rd) and NOIR IS THE NEW BLACK (March).
But before that, FairSquare Comics will kick off on the INKR Comics App with the Digital first YA series LADY-BIRD written by Fabrice Sapolsky and Dawn J. Starr with art and colors by Daniele Sapuppo.
LADY-BIRD tells the story of two young women, living 100+ years apart, and mysteriously connected. But their goal is the same: freeing themselves from patriarchy, abuse and exploitation.
“It’s a coming of age story of a new kind” says writer and publisher Fabrice Sapolsky. “Lady-Bird came through my friend Xavier Fournier who sent me a short story called Vega The Magician originally published in 1909. Probably one of the first female superheroes in history. I didn’t know what to do with it until, I clicked… During the first lockdown of 2020 last March. And from there, with Dawn’s help, it started flowing. Lady-Bird is a very contemporary tale that deals with very serious topics such as displaced people, human trafficking, broken health care systems, privileges and greed. But they’re wrapped up in a very entertaining hero tale with optimistic female leads. Oh, and very unique abilities!” he concludes.
“Lady-Bird borrows elements from anime and shoujo manga with a dash of classic Marvel flavor. It’s a YA comic, but everyone will love it. It’s very inspirational.” adds co-writer Dawn J. Starr.
Making his North American debut, Italian artist Daniele Sapuppo also brings a unique style to the series.
LADY-BIRD will be ongoing and published on INKR Comics for FREE (with ads) every other Wednesdays, from January 13th, then collected as a traditional graphic novel by the end of the year.
