HEY KIDS, BATMAN IS TALKING TO YOU!

September is traditionally the ‘Back to School’ season. And although I didn’t stop working all summer, it’s time for me to start showing everything I’ve been working on in the past few weeks. I’m starting with that Batman piece (which is, as you can see, unfinished). When I did the DrStrangeLove poster (that’ll be first available at Baltimore Comic Con) it gave me an idea. As I’m learning to be an illustrator, I’m not top level material. But I have 20+ years of experience in graphic design. So, combining the two had to help make my work more attractive. Judging by the feedback I got with the DrStrangeLove piece, it does! 🙂 So I’m going to continue on that path and produce art prints which will be a mix of graphic design and drawing. Batman seemed like a great candidate. I woke up this morning with the image of BatFleck (Ben Affleck Batman) looking at me. It’s probably because I saw that famous Entertainment Weekly cover somewhere near my desk as I was cleaning and it got stuck into my retina.
I’ve always been a fan of Frank Miller’s Dark Knight returns (but not the sequel). And I started envisioning what would the Batman supporters in the streets do in a totalitarian society. Batman as a poster boy for the Anonymous? I love that idea! So I hit the Cintiq and started drawing. Since I started drawing again, I always would take some reference photos of myself. But this time, I only used a reference for the hand. The rest came up from the top of my head (and hand). When it’s finished, I’m sure it’ll be a great poster to hang in every comic book fan’s home. I’m counting on that!

To be continued…
